Application-Oriented Numerical Computation and Optimization—a Celebration of 60 Years of the IJCM
Numerical computation and optimization have played a significant role in applied science, such as physics, biology, and computer science. Over the past decades, research on applied numerical computation and optimization has gained increasing attention. In this special issue, we will bring together mathematical researchers from various backgrounds to publish original research results in application-oriented numerical computation and optimization.
This special issue will not place emphasis on any particular mathematical modeling of nonlinear problems, but rather on the investigation of analytical features of the solutions of underlying problems and the analysis of approximation techniques to simulate them. Both deterministic and stochastic models arising in nature and society will be considered. Pertinent applications to the resolution of practical problems will be obtained.
- Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Exponential time differencing methods in sciences and engineering applications.
- Subgradient and extragradient methods for discrete and/or continuous nonlinear systems.
- Optimizations of direct parallel in-time computations.
- Numerical analysis of adaptive methods for linear and nonlinear partial differential equations.
- Approximation via neural networks.
- Novel high-order numerical methods (finite differences, finite elements, meshless, hybrid methods, etc.).
- Preservations of positivity, boundedness, convexity, or monotonicity.
- Physics-informed and target-oriented neural network computations.
This special issue consists of two categories.
1. Invited papers. These are highly selective survey papers related to the special issue topics. Well-known researchers in the fields will be invited. The Guest Editors expect this category will have 2 or 3 survey papers but may publish more.
2. Contributed papers. High-quality papers will be selected from submitted manuscripts after the special issue announcement goes live online.
All papers submitted in the above two categories must go through the standard IJCM peer-review process and pass the CrossCheck examinations. All submitted papers will receive careful consideration and timely feedback.
