Action Research in Teacher Education in the Middle East
In recent years Educational Action Research has encouraged contributions in the field from all corners of the world, been an instigator in developing practitioner research networks and welcomed contributors from the global South. The journal also draws attention to how action research theories and practices are reworked in local contexts as a source of knowledge generation, as examples of ‘globalization from below’.
Although there have been individual contributions to the journal from the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, there is a strong case for a Special Issue that focuses more closely on this disparate region that, in terms of its contributions to education, is often overlooked. This Special Issue aims to break new ground by presenting a cross section of the varied forms of action research that are happening in an area of the world that is rarely considered by many international educational journals.
A MENA Special Issue would allow contributors to contribute significantly to the debate concerning the role of action research in the diverse cultural and institutional settings that exist throughout the region. Drawing on knowledge and work of our team of educators all of whom have long-term experience in the region, a MENA Special Issue of Educational Action Research would showcase the varied contexts and roles that action research takes and how it is being appropriated as a vital tool for professional development, curricular improvement, and growth of educational knowledge throughout the region.
