Acarology Research Methodologies

  • The purpose of this special collection is to encourage the sharing of methods and techniques in the field of acarology.
  • The study of mites and ticks often poses unique challenges due to the small size, unique life cycles, and/or morphologies of the taxa, which can create barriers to entry for researchers new to the field of acarology.
  • Papers in this collection will provide detailed methodologies, including figures, pictures or schematics, as well as sourced materials, equipment used, and suppliers, as applicable.
  • Papers will describe methods in acarology including, but not limited to: sampling, rearing, mounting, imaging, and observation of mites and ticks, as well as experiment set-up under laboratory, greenhouse, or field conditions.
  • Authors will use vocabulary accessible to a non-expert audience and/or define any technical terms/jargon.
