55 Years in Photogrammetry: Celebrating Prof. Armin Gruen's 80th Birthday

The upcoming special issue of Geo-spatial Information Science will be a look back at the development of photogrammetry over the past fifty-five years and the influence of artificial intelligence on its evolution. It will also explore the cross-application of related themes and provide insights into the future and innovative directions of photogrammetry development alongside computer vision and deep learning.

Contributions are encouraged in any of these traditional and emerging fields or at the intersection of innovation points, and can be submitted in the form of review articles or original research papers. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Exploring the transition from analog to AI-assistant digital photogrammetry technologies
  • AI-Enhanced photogrammetry to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Revolutionizing image processing in photogrammetry with machine learning
  • Progress in 3D modeling and its applications in urban planning, architecture, archaeology, and cultural relics
  • Photogrammetry aids in assessing environmental changes and managing natural disasters
  • Deep Learning for automated image feature extraction, matching, reconstruction, and segmentation
  • Exploring the synergies between GIS, remote sensing, and photogrammetry for enhanced spatial analysis and decision-making
  • Real-time photogrammetry and Its Applications in positioning, navigation and mapping
  • Highlighting unique applications of photogrammetry in fields like forensic science, medicine, underwater survey and sports
  • Speculating on future sensor innovations to further enhance the resolution and capabilities of photogrammetric techniques
  • Ethical considerations and data privacy in photogrammetry
  • Integration and fusion of multi-source data (such as POS, Image, SAR, LiDAR, Sonar, etc.) and photogrammetric product quality control

Submission Instructions

All submissions will be peer reviewed according to the Geo-spatial Information Science (GSIS) guidelines. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published or be under review elsewhere. Prospective authors should consult the Instructions for Authors page on the journal homepage for guidelines and information on paper formatting and submission.

Authors should submit manuscripts using the GSIS submission portal. Please select “55 Years in Photogrammetry: Celebrating Prof. Armin Gruen's 80th Birthday” in the space provided on the submission form for the name of the special issue.

Submission to this special issue does not guarantee acceptance; all submissions will undergo full, double-anonymous, peer review. GSIS is a fully open access journal and an article publishing charge will be applied if your manuscript is accepted for publication.
