20th Biennial Symposium on Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism (PP23)
In June 2023 the Purine and Pyrimidine Society organized its biannual meeting in Los Angeles, CA, USA. At this meeting a number of different aspects of nucleoside and nucleotide metabolism were discussed focusing on
- inborn errors of metabolism (e.g. novel developments on the Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, mitochondrial diseases, gout)
- cancer drug resistance
- cancer drug metabolism (how to improve "old" drugs, development of new drugs, new approaches for "old" targets).
- novel developments on regulation of nucleoside transporters and drug efflux pumps
- degradation of nucleotides, both of mononucleotides (e.g. the role of CD73), but also molecules such as NUDT22, CD39 and SAMHD1, which play a role in degradation of di-, and trinucleotides and of nucleotide analogs.
- purine and pyrimidine metabolism in other organisms
- purine and pyrimidines in the immune system
- nucleic acids in vaccins and adjuvants
