The 16th Chinese Economic Association Europe and 35th Chinese Economic Association UK Annual Conference

The 16th Chinese Economic Association Europe and 35th Chinese Economic Association UK Annual Conference will be held during 3-4 August 2024 in London. The theme of the 2024 annual conference is “Building a Sustainable and Resilient Economy”. Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies, the official journal of the Chinese Economic Association, will publish a special issue to support the annual conference.

In an era marked by unprecedented global challenges, the need for innovative and sustainable economic strategies is more pressing than ever. The onset of the 21st century has ushered in a multitude of complex and interconnected issues that have profound implications for the global economy. Climate change is accelerating at an alarming rate, leading to extreme weather events and environmental crises. Technological advancements, while beneficial in many respects, have also disrupted traditional economic models and labour markets. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated existing vulnerabilities in economic systems worldwide, leading to increased inequality and societal strife.

This conference seeks to unite academics, policymakers, and practitioners in a collaborative effort to address these challenges and chart a course towards a sustainable and resilient future. Recognizing that no single discipline or sector can tackle these issues alone, this conference aims to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue that intersects economics with other fields. The goal is to bridge the gap between theory and practice, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences from diverse perspectives. This approach is vital for developing comprehensive strategies that are not only economically viable but also socially equitable and environmentally sustainable.

We hope to cover a wide array of topics essential for building a sustainable and resilient economy. We invite submissions that explore the following sub-themes:

  • Climate change economics
  • Circular economy
  • Digital economy
  • Sustainable finance
  • Green recovery in post-COVID era
  • Environmental, social and governance (ESG)
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and big data
  • Sustainable development goals
  • Economic inequality and social welfare
  • Economic development in China
  • Other general economics research
