  • Working with the editorial team to solicit, oversee and promote special issues, forums and provocations (see journal website for more information).
  • Advising the Managing Editor on appointments to the journal’s editorial board to ensure adequate coverage in terms of subject specialties and geographic representation.

Reflecting the journal’s efforts to broaden its geographical representation, we strongly encourage applications from outside of the UK and North America.

Application Details

Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a letter outlining: 1) relevant experience; 2) the candidate’s vision and ambitions for the journal; and 3) description and brief rationale for a Special Issue that the journal could consider pursuing.

The closing date for applications is Friday 25 September 2020. We anticipate the positions will commence in January 2021, although there is some flexibility around the start date. The length of the term is typically 3-5 years in length. Please contact any of the current editors for additional information about the position. Applications should be sent to the journal’s editorial office at [email protected]

All applications will be treated as strictly confidential. The Editorial Team will judge each application on its merits. As we are committed to expanding and diversifying representation through the recruitment of editors and board members whose identities are underrepresented in the discipline, our recruitment process will also involve conscious regard for the gender and race of applicants.

The core responsibility for this position is to coordinate the book reviews process, which includes: • Identifying appropriate current academic titles in social and cultural geography

  • Receiving, editing, and sending finished reviews into production.
  • Maintaining and updating a record of book reviews published, in press, and in process.

In addition, book review editors are active members of the editorial team and provide input on, among other things, special issue proposals, the management of the editorial board, the annual editorial board meeting location and agenda, as well as strategies to maintain and enhance the quality, reputation and international reach of the journal.

Qualifications

We seek someone with a broad knowledge of the fields of social and cultural geography who can work promptly and collaboratively with other members of the editorial team and especially, the other book review editor. Candidates should also be open to working with a diverse mix of emerging and established scholars from around the world. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the organizational and managerial skills necessary to manage the ongoing workload associated with the position. Reflecting the journal’s efforts to broaden its geographical representation, we strongly encourage applications from outside of the UK and North America.

Application Details

Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a letter outlining the candidate’s qualifications and interest in both the journal and the position of book review editor. Because we are seeking two review editors to join Social & Cultural Geography as a team, we welcome joint applications from pairs of scholars located in different parts of the world who are interested in working together in this capacity (for instance, at present, Jason based in the UK generally fields current titles published in Europe and Asia, whereas Soren based in the US generally handles titles published in North America and Australasia). In this case, please provide a single co-authored letter outlining the candidates’ shared qualifications and interest in both the journal and the positions of the book review editor.

Closing date for applications is Friday 25 September 2020.

We anticipate the position will commence in January 2021.

Please contact Jason Dittmer ([email protected]) and/or Soren Larsen ([email protected]) for additional information about the position.
