Call for Book Review Editor

1 March 2021

About the role

We invite proposals from members of the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics(BSRLM) to take up the Book Review Editorship of Research in Mathematics Education (RME).
The Book Review Editor will be appointed by the BSRLM Executive for a period of three years beginning 1st April 2021. Research in Mathematics Education is the official journal of BSRLM. It is an international English
language journal which publishes original refereed articles on all aspects of mathematics education. Submissions are welcome from both non-members and members of the organisation. The journal expects papers to frame the central issues in terms which are applicable across educational systems
and informed by wider thinking in the field. The journal has three sections, covering research papers, book reviews, and a report on the Society’s most recent day conference. The Book Review Editor is responsible for the book reviews section which contains reviews of recent publications in the field. Reviews may focus on individual works, or examine several recent publications on cognate topics. In all cases, reviewers are encouraged to make explicit reference to relevant earlier work in the field and to other contemporary work, clearly locating the new text within the literature of the field, and providing thoughtful comparison. The role of Book Review Editor includes choosing, in liaison with the wider editorial team, suitable books for review, finding reviewers and commissioning writing, liaising with reviewers and providing feedback on drafts and submitting copy for consideration by the editors. It also involves
liaison with book publishers to secure review copies and send back the finished reviews. A brief annual report on activity is required along with plans for the future.

Applicants should have reviewing experience.

Previous editorial experience will be an advantage.

In your application, please set out briefly your experience as a reviewer and editor, and outline your approach to the Book Review Editor role.
