The World Robot Summit (WRS) aims in achieving a society where humans and robots cooperate and coexist. The World Robot Challenge (WRC), a part of the WRS, is a robot competition in which teams from all over the world compete in the categories where the use of robot is highly expected. The WRC is composed of three categories: the industrial robotics category, the service robotics category and the disaster robotics categories.

This virtual special issue includes the survey papers and research papers from these categories of WRC 2018.

We are happy to announce you that we will have the World Robot Summit 2020 in Fukushima (20-22 August 2020) and Aichi (8-11 October 2020) this year, and the Editorial Committee of Advanced Robotics plans to publish the special issues on WRS 2020 as well. (https://worldrobotsummit.org/en/)
