Responsible & Sustainable Manufacturing

Whilst organizations previously used extensively computing power to have higher quality and improve productivity, today’s organizations have multiple challenges out of which social, environmental and sense of responsibility aspects are the major issues. Organizations are seeking new ways to integrate social and responsible practices within their good and service production processes to improve their sustainable competitiveness. Other than conventional organization performance objectives of cost, quality, speed, flexibility and dependability, there is now a requirement for organizations to deliver on sustainable & responsible objectives.

Responsible Manufacturing (RM) has been defined as an economically driven, system-wide and integrated approach to the reduction and elimination of all waste streams associated with the design, manufacture, use and/or disposal of products and materials. On the other hand, the U.S. Department of Commerce defines sustainable manufacturing (SM) as “the creation of manufactured products that use processes that minimize negative environmental impacts, conserve energy and natural resources, are safe for employees, communities, and consumers and are economically sound.” As a summary, the main idea behind responsible and sustainable manufacturing (R&SM) is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

  • First submission deadline: 31 May 2019
  • 1st round decision (major revision): 31 August 2019
  • Resubmission: 30 November 2019
  • 2nd round decision (minor revision): 31 January 2020
  • Final acceptance: 31 March 2020
