The editorial team of the Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning congratulates this year’s winner of the Barbara Humberstone Reviewer of the Year Award: Samantha Friedman.

“I am delighted and honoured to receive this award from JAEOL. Being a reviewer for the journal has been a hugely positive experience, and I particularly appreciate how supported I have felt by the editorial team through my several years of reviewing for them. As a qualitative researcher, it is clear to me that the journal cares about high-quality, rigorous qualitative research and reviews which help to uphold this standard.”

Dr. Samantha Friedman is a Lecturer in Applied Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. She is a member of the Developmental Psychology in Education Research Group within Moray House School of Education and Sport. Samantha’s research focuses on critical perspectives on autism, nature, wellbeing, and the intersection of these topics. She is particularly interested in supporting autistic and otherwise neurodivergent young people through nature-based learning and play, and she uses primarily qualitative methods.

About the Barbara Humberstone Review of the Year Award

Named after esteemed colleague Professor Barbara Humberstone, this award celebrates the unsung work that our reviewers do for the Journal. Reviewers provide an invaluable service to the Journal by offering not only their time, but their critical perspectives and expertise to the manuscript review process. Without the work of our reviewers, the journal would not have been able to serve the Outdoor Learning community for the past 27 years; 18 of which have been under Barbara’s watchful eye as Editor-in-Chief.
