Natural-Product-based Nanomedicine

Natural-product-based nanomedicine refers to developing and applying nanomedicines that incorporate components derived from natural products. Natural products have been used in medicine for many years. The use of nanotechnology with natural products is a rapidly developing field. Nanotechnology brings multiple advantages to the delivery of natural compounds in treating cancer and other chronic human diseases. Incorporating nanoparticles can increase the natural products' bioavailability, targeting, and controlled-release profiles.

Combining natural products and nanomedicine can result in innovative and potentially more effective approaches for diagnosing, treating, and preventing various diseases. The development of natural-product-based nanomedicine involves interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers in pharmacology, nanotechnology, biology, and medicine. While this field shows great promise, it also poses challenges related to standardization, quality control, and the complex interactions between natural products and nanocarriers.

This Article Collection aims to highlight the current progress in natural product-based nanomedicines. We invite submissions that address the following themes but are not limited to:

  • Nanocarriers for natural product delivery and controlled release
  • The construction of nanomedicines by using natural products as structural moieties and their applications
  • Natural product-based diagnostic imaging
  • Natural product-assisted combination therapy based on nanoparticles
  • Nanotechnology-based natural products for disease treatment
  • Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of nanoformulations of natural compounds
  • Natural product-made nanocrystals and their biomedical applications

Studies on complex herbal extracts must characterize their chemical composition (e.g., HPLC fingerprinting analysis or quantization of major compounds). We welcome the following types of articles: original papers, reviews, perspectives, notes, and short communications.

5 Keywords:

  1. Natural products
  2. Nanomedicine
  3. Drug delivery
  4. Nanotechnology
  5. Disease treatment
