Nuclear Issues in the 2020 US Presidential Election

Journal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament Special Issue Call for Papers

Deadline: 30 April 2020

The Journal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament (J-PAND) wishes to call for papers for a Special Feature.

Nuclear Issues in the 2020 US Presidential Election

A variety of events related to nuclear weapons have taken place under the presidency of Donald Trump. The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty expired in August. The US-Russia negotiation to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty has been stalled. The United States also withdrew from the international nuclear agreement with Iran. On the other hand, President Trump has engaged in an unprecedented summit diplomacy with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un with a view to reaching an agreement to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

As Trump is running for reelection in 2020, it is likely that the issue of nuclear weapons will be one of the priorities in the quadrennial event. To inform evidence-based discussions during the election, the J-PAND editors wish to call for papers related to topics and questions that may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • How has the Trump administration changed the course of US nuclear policy?
  • What aspects of the issue will and should be discussed in the election?
  • How will the nuclear issue affect the outcome of the election?

The Special Feature is expected to be published in October 2020.
