TPNW Conference of States Parties: What Is to Be Discussed?

Journal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament Special Issue Call for Papers

Deadline: 30 April 2020

The Journal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament (J-PAND) wishes to call for papers for a Special Feature.

TPNW Conference of States Parties: What Is to Be Discussed?

Article 8 of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons stipulates that “[t]he States Parties shall meet regularly in order to consider and, where necessary, take decisions in respect of any matter with regard to the application or implementation of this Treaty, in accordance with its relevant provisions, and on further measures for nuclear disarmament.” The conferences will be held on a biennial basis. In addition, “a conference to review the operation of the Treaty and the progress in achieving the purposes of the Treaty” shall be held five years after the treaty’s entry into force and every six years after that.

With the entry into force of the treaty expected in the foreseeable future, it is now time to consider what would and should be the issues to be discussed at the conferences. The J-PAND editors wish to call for papers on this question.

The Special Feature is expected to be published in October 2020.
