About the Role with Perspectives
Perspectives journal is seeking a new Editor to lead its editorial team. The current Editor, Bland Tomkinson, has indicated a wish to step down with effect from the end of 2022.
Taylor & Francis will make available an honorarium of £1000 a year to the Editor and Association of University Administrators will grant free access for the Editor to its annual conference. Relevant expenses will also be covered.
Role Description
The Editor is responsible to the publishers, Taylor & Francis, for:
• Soliciting and encouraging submissions to Perspectives.
• Leading the Editorial team – currently two Deputy Editors, Charlotte Verney and Joanne Caldwell, and three Associate Editors, one of whom also acts as the journal’s Social Media Editor and another as Secretary to the Editorial Board.
• Working with the Editorial Board to maintain and enhance the Journal’s quality and reputation nationally and internationally.
• Identifying and encouraging suitable peer reviewers.
• Monitoring the work of other members of the editorial team to ensure the smooth running of the journal.
• As necessary, recruiting experienced new members of the editorial team.
• Together with the Chair of the Editorial Board, supporting the processes for the identification and recruitment of new Editorial Board members.
• Representing the journal at appropriate conferences and other events.
• Providing reports to the Editorial Board, which normally meets four times per year. Meetings are normally held via video-conferencing.
Taylor & Francis provides Editorial Assistant support to assist with the administrative aspects of managing the journal’s ScholarOne Manuscripts website, including checking that all necessary files and information have been submitted, correspondence with authors and reviewers as required on technical aspects of submitting and reviewing, and sending accepted manuscripts into their production system.
Person Specification
The person appointed will be expected to be qualified to at least first-degree level, preferably with a postgraduate research or relevant professional qualification, and to have experience of:
• The editorial processes of a professional or academic journal.
• Peer-reviewing scholarly articles.
• Authoring scholarly articles in relevant journals in the field.
• Commitment to, and understanding of, academic integrity and codes of ethics relevant to scholarly research and publishing and to professional support services in higher education.
• Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Familiarity with the requirements of the double-anonymous peer review process.
• Working in management, administration, or policy planning in higher education.
• Working to tight deadlines.
• Working as a close member of a professional team.
• Familiarity with editorial access to ScholarOne system would be advantageous.

Perspectives: policy and practice in higher education informs and challenges higher education managers and administrators, both within the UK and internationally, by publishing scholarly material which analyses and develops their practice of leadership, management and policymaking. It also aims to inform students and researchers into higher education policy, leadership and management as well as policy makers in governmental organisations and elsewhere.
