“Extremely friendly staff that answered all my questions. I have published approximately 30 articles in my career, and this was by far the article with the easiest publication process and the fastest turnaround time. My article went from being accepted to posted online as an article in advance in its final form within one week, which is exceptionally fast.. quick review and online publication process. great quality journal.”

Check out the latest developments from Industry 4.0 to smart logistics in our top Operations and Supply Chain Management journals.

Research on supply chain (SC) digitalization, resilience, sustainability and leagility has remarkably progressed, most of it focused on the individual contributions of these four major frameworks.

While the general notion of Industry 5.0 has been elaborated, its implications for future operations and supply chains remain underexplored. This paper contributes to the conceptualisation of Industry 5.0 from the perspective of viability.

The metaverse and Web 3.0 have created a new digital world with specific properties and behaviours replicating and influencing the behaviours and processes of physical entities. This study aims to advance our understanding of how the metaverse will impact supply chain and operations management (SCOM).

With the development and evolution of information technology, competition has become more and more intensive on a global scale. Many companies have forecast that the future of operation and supply chain management (SCM) may change dramatically, from planning, scheduling, optimisation, to transportation, with the presence of artificial intelligence (AI).

Blockchain is one of the most promising technologies with a highly disruptive potential, yet many aspects of this innovation remain unclear in the current body of research. One of them is the whole adoption and diffusion process of blockchain technology, which needs more attention from researchers.

Industry 4.0 has come as a consecutive and predicted outcome of the previous industrial periods, recently dubbed Industry 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 (Pereira and Romero Citation2017). As an expected outcome, companies were proactively prepared for the transformational potential of this opportunity by defining in advance the most suitable manufacturing models, operational processes and targets –coming prepared for the associated challenges (Almada-Lobo Citation2016; Pereira and Romero Citation2017).

This special volume explores topics related to green and sustainable supply chain management (GSSCM) in platform economies. This article aims to provide an overview by dividing these topics into six groups: (1) platform-based GSSCM, (2) technological innovations supporting GSSCM in the platform economy, (3) data-driven sustainable development of the supply chain, (4) influencing factors of supply chain management (SCM), (5) coping with disruptions in SCM, and (6) data-driven medical SCM.

Smart logistics is an effective way to meet the challenges of fast-changing customer expectations, take opportunities brought by new technologies, and facilitate new business models.

This study examines the potentials and challenges of drones, or unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs), in supply chain management (SCM) and logistics. A systematic literature review was performed to capture the dynamics surrounding drones and to provide a timely and comprehensive overview of what has been studied so far and what needs to be investigated in the future.
