Editorial Assistants Required

Cogent Education

Deadline
6 December 2021

About the Role

Cogent Education is currently recruiting for two new Editorial Assistants!

The successful candidates will gain valuable editorial experience and the opportunity to learn, through direct contact with journal Editors and publishing professionals, about many aspects of open access journals. It is an exciting period of growth for Cogent Education and we are seeking candidates with exemplary organisational skills to help assist the journal with the flow of new submissions.

Taylor & Francis will provide remuneration for the role to cover any journal-related expenses and will provide training on Editorial Manager, the online system used for peer review.

The successful candidates will also receive ad hoc training, support and mentoring from the journal’s Portfolio Manager.

The roles are open to all but may be of particular interest for doctoral students or early career researchers.

The role:

• Assign new submissions to the journal to a suitable expert Editor, to take forward to peer review, and check in regularly to ensure progress
• Research and suggest scholars to join the editorial board and the College of Reviewers
• Proactively monitor all areas of the peer review site to ensure submissions are progressing smoothly

What we are looking for:

• Someone highly organised
• Strong time management and prioritisation skills
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and professionally
• A team player who is adept at working cooperatively with others
• Comfortable working with new electronic systems
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of at least one area of educational research that is covered by the scope of Cogent Education
• Enthusiasm for Open Access

Previous publishing experience and knowledge of open access journals would be beneficial but are not required.

We are open to applicants from anywhere in the world, with the caveat that the successful candidates must be able to attend virtual meetings with the Portfolio Manager from time-to-time, to be scheduled within standard UK working hours.
