Journal of Mitochondria, Plastids and Endosymbiosis

An Open Access Journal

Taylor & Francis will support a 100% APC discount for all authors in Journal of Mitochondria, Plastids and Endosymbiosis in 2023. No fees will be charged for any papers submitted before 1 January 2024.

Journal of Mitochondria, Plastids and Endosymbiosis (JMPE) is dedicated to serving the biology community by publishing novel and exciting findings with high significance in the biology of mitochondria, plastids and endosymbiosis..

The journal aims to highlight the commonalities between these fields, and to expose our readership to ways of approaching study of endosymbiosis which they may not have encountered within their own field of work.

Endosymbiosis research has the potential to expand our knowledge of the evolution of life, of biological processes such as respiration and photosynthesis, and provide insights for human health, aging, plant biology and biotechnology.

The journal covers all classes of eukaryotes and will also consider work on prokaryotes relevant to the understanding of the function and evolution of mitochondria and plastids.

JMPE seeks submissions focusing broadly on cellular biology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, development, genomics, biomedicine, pharmacology, toxicology, bioinformatics, and molecular evolution, as well as on organismic interactions relevant in the context of endosymbiosis.

Meet The Editors

Prof. Volkmar Weissig is a Tenured Professor of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy and a Professor of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Graduate Studies at Midwestern University. Dr. Weissig received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry and his postdoctoral Sc.D. degree (“Habilitation”) in Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the Martin-Luther University in Halle (Germany).

Prof. Weissig holds 16 patents and has published over 120 research papers, review articles and book chapters, mostly in the area of nano drug delivery systems and mitochondrial medicine. He also edited and published 13 books. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Liposome Research and he is member of several other Editorial Boards. In July 2009 he was inducted into the World Technology Network as a Fellow. Since October 2014 Dr. Weissig has been serving as the President of the World Mitochondria Society.

Prof. Dario Leister studied Biochemistry in Tübingen and undertook his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) on the identification of plant disease resistance genes at the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne in 1995.

Since 2005 he holds the position of Professor (Chair) of Plant Molecular Biology/Botany at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU). Dario Leister has served as adjunct professor at Trento University (2013), as founding head of the Copenhagen Plant Science Center (CPSC) (2013 to 2016), and member of the Scientific Advisory Board, Viikki Plant Science Center (ViPS), Helsinki, Finland (2015 to 2022). He is member of the Leopoldina (German National Academy of Sciences) since 2017 and currently coordinates the German network TR175 “the Green Hub” on acclimation research and the ERC Synergy Cluster “PhotoRedesign”.
