Papers contained in this special issue have been shortlisted from papers presented at the Civil Engineering Research in Ireland 2018 (CERI2018) conference held in Dublin, Ireland, in August 2018. These papers were extended by the authors for this special issue and peer reviewed by international experts. Papers featured are emphasized on applications, as well as theory, to maintain relevance to both industry and academia. Furthermore, an aim of the conference series is to nurture early-career researchers by making it accessible and offering opportunities wherever possible to grow them as the next generation of leaders in research and industry. Thus, five out of the six papers selected for this special issue on “Structural Integrity of Civil Engineering Infrastructure“ have Masters or PhD candidates as lead authors with the sixth paper being led by Dr Magdalena Hajdukiewicz, who received a Young Researcher’s Award at the CERI2018 conference for her outstanding contribution to research and practice at an early stage in her career.
