About the prize

This is an annual prize awarded to the author/s of the article judged as the most outstanding contribution in the journal during the previous volume. The prize is £1000 plus a year’s subscription to the Journal. Established in 2022 this prize celebrates the significant contribution by Martin Bulmer to the development Ethnic and Racial Studies over four decades. Martin helped to establish it as the leading journal in this field and the prize recognizes his substantial contribution to its development and to the study of race and ethnicity more generally.

Eligibility

  • Journal articles published in the current year’s volume are automatically considered for the award.

  • Only peer-reviewed journal articles are eligible for this Prize.

  • An author may have more than one paper considered for the Prize.

Assessment

  • Entries will be judged by the Editor in Chief and a small committee of members from the journal’s Editorial Board.

  • The award of the Prize will be at the discretion of the Board.

  • In the unusual event where no award can be made, the Editor in Chief / Board has the discretion to extend this period by an additional year.

Prize

  • The Prize will be awarded each year in December and the winner will be announced on social media.

  • Where there are multiple authors on a manuscript the Prize will be split equally between them.

  • The winner of the successful contribution will receive £1000 plus an annual subscription to the Journal.

  • The winning article will be granted free access for a period of three months from 1st January to 31st March.

  • Only one Prize can be awarded per article or per author/s.

    Consideration of eligible papers is now underway and the first award will be made in December 2022. For further information please contact [email protected]
