About the prize
The Kauffman Prize will be established in 2022 in recognition of the contributions to the journal by Deborah Kauffman who served as Editor-in-Chief from 2002 to 2020.
Awarded annually by the Editorial Board, the Kauffman Prize will recognize an article of distinction published in the Journal of Musicological Research.
At the end of each calendar year, the Editor-in-Chief will present a slate of three to five articles to a subcommittee of the Editorial Board (the Prize subcommittee). This subcommittee will read and evaluate the articles and make its recommendation to the full board. Following a majority vote, the winning article will be announced.
Prize and Recognition
Kauffman Prize recipients will receive a $1000 cash reward and a citation of the award in JMR. The winning article will be available for free on the JMR website for a limited amount of time following the announcement.
