Systematic Biology

Outstanding paper published in Systematics & Biodiversity in 2017

About the prize

Systematics & Biodiversity is pleased to announce the winner of the Outstanding paper published in the journal in 2017.

The judging panel awarded the prize to Dr. Ulrich Meve, Dr Annemarie Heiduk, and Professor Sigrid Liede-Schumann for their article: “Origin and early evolution of Ceropegieae (Apocynaceae-Asclepiadoideae)”, published in volume 15, issue 2. The authors will collectively win £500 prize money.

The article is a “…very thorough, well-written and enjoyable account of the tribe Ceropegieae, particularly regarding phylogenetic relationships, morphology and biogeography. The authors focussed on early branching lineages that have hitherto been under-explored in analyses of this tribe of Asclepiadoideae (Apocynaceae)” - Elliot Shubert (Editor-in-Chief, Systematics & Biodiversity).

The winning article is currently free to access until June, 2019.
