About the prize

The Editors of Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part C (JESHC) are pleased to award two annual prizes for best papers. One prize is for Best Original Research Paper and one is for Best Scientific Review Paper. The prizes are presented to the authors of an original research paper and of a scientific review paper published in JESHC on the previous calendar year to recognize their outstanding scientific publication in the journal. For the 2021 Best Original Research Paper Prize and 2021 Best Scientific Review Paper Prize, all papers in each category published in Volume 39 (2021) are eligible. Each prize consists of $500 USD and a certificate. The winners are announced in the first possible issue of the JESHC. See below to learn more about this additional benefit of publishing in JESHC.

Eligibility: All authors of an original research paper or a scientific review paper are eligible, including those with an editorial role in the journal, except those located in a sanctioned or embargoed country according to the current International Trade Sanctions.

Selection Criteria:

The Best Original Research Paper will be selected based on:

  • Professional Merit (40%): Originality of the research question, innovation and technical excellency, thoroughness of the methods description, critical interpretation and discussion of the study findings.
  • Contribution (40%): Relevance and usefulness of the research in the field of environmental science and impact on public health.
  • Presentation Quality (20%): Readability, quality of writing, presentation, organization, etc.

The Best Scientific Review Paper will be selected based on:

  • Professional Merit (40%): Thoroughness of the review, mechanistic insights, and unique perspectives in the field.
  • Contribution (40%): Relevance and usefulness of the topic in the field of environmental science and impact on public health.ย 
  • Presentation Quality (20%): Readability, quality of writing, presentation, organization, etc.

Selection Committee:ย 

  • A five-member committee will be convened by the Associate Editor of the journal, to include four Editorial Board members and the Associate Editor of the journal, who will serve as the Chair.
  • Committee members will be cleared from potential conflict of interests, including but not limited to authorship of an eligible publication or belonging to the same institution as authors of an eligible publication.
  • The Chair will communicate the decisions of the committee to the JESHC Editor-in-Chief by no later than April 15th.

Prize:

  • The Best Original Research Paper prize and the Best Scientific Review Paper prize consist of $500 USD and a certificate each.
  • The decision of the Editor and Selection Committee is final, and the prize is not negotiable or transferable.
  • The corresponding author of the winner papers will be contacted by the Editor using the email address provided on the manuscript submission.
  • The winners will be announced in the first possible issue of JESHC following acceptance of the prize by the corresponding author of the winner paper.
