Clare Winnicott Essay Awards for Social Work Practitioners and Social Work Students

About the prize

Two annual awards of £500 each are made annually in honour of Clare Winnicott, OBE. The competition aims to encourage writing among practitioners and students who have not previously been published. Winning essays will be published in the Journal of Social Work Practice. Essays submitted for the award may refer to any field of social work, with children, families, adults or organisations. They will show emotional and intellectual sophistication. Essays will be explicitly informed by psychodynamic, systemic, or relationship-based theory, or a combination of these, in keeping with the remit of the Journal of Social Work Practice, where winning essays will be published. More information and applications forms can be found at www.gaps.org.uk.

About GAPS

GAPS - GAPS (Group for the Advancement of Psychodynamics and Psychotherapy in Social Work) is a charity which promotes relationship-based approaches, and psychodynamic and systemic thinking in social work. It is funded by its ownership of the ISI ranked Journal of Social Work Practice, which was established by the group in 1980s. As well as encouraging writing from practitioners and students, we regularly hold workshops and skills training for social workers around the UK. Each year we hold a National Conference which offers the social work profession a space to gather together, listen, reflect and discuss ideas around the conference theme. Everyone within the social work profession is welcome to join in these activities. Members of GAPS additionally receive quarterly printed copies of the journal, as well as online access, which includes the journal's full archive.
