Optofluidics and Acoustofluidics

Optofluidics and Acoustofluidics are the use of light or acoustic waves to control the flow of fluids, particularly at the micrometer scale. A notable application of this technology is in so-called lab-on-a-chip devices: miniature systems for analyzing and sorting particles and cells.

Optofluidics and Acoustofluidics have been used to evaluate for detecting, patterning, and enriching samples for biology studies and nanotechnologies. This capability has profound implications in the fields of medicine and biology, in characterizing key parameters of the most basic unit of life, the cell. Observation of cells can answer many fundamental questions in biology and medical disease research, with the potential for investigating direct therapeutic interactions on the single-cell level accompanied by rapid drug development feedback.

Promotes collaboration between researchers in the field of Optics, Photonics, and Micro/Nanosystems. This Article Collection is open to all topics related to novel methods of the formation of Optical forces and traps, Enhanced optical manipulation and trapping by photonic crystals and plasmonic nanostructures, Stem cell patterning and interactions force study, Particle/cell alignment and rotation, Localized surface plasmon assisted microfluidic mixing, Nanoparticle patterning, and assembly by light-induced concentration and fusion, the realization of new functionalities such as particle sorting, single particle, and single molecule characterizations, as well as applications in biology and other fields.

All manuscripts submitted to this Article Collection will undergo a full peer-review; the Guest Advisor for this collection will not be handling the manuscripts (unless they are an Editorial Board member). Please review the journal scope and author submission instructions prior to submitting a manuscript.

The deadline for submitting manuscripts is 31 March 2024.
