Clinical advances in rare cancers

Submit your research to Expert Review of Anticancer Therapy

About the Article Collection

Rare cancers collectively represent approximately 22% of all cancer diagnoses worldwide, yet they often receive disproportionately less research attention and funding compared to more common malignancies. These cancers, typically defined as those with an incidence of fewer than 6 cases per 100,000 individuals annually, present unique challenges in diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical management. [1]

This Article Collection aims to not only provide disease-specific updates to clinical treatment of rare cancers but also highlight the current gaps in evidence and innovation faced across rare cancer clinical research and how with improved focus, collaboration and emerging translational research opportunities they can be overcome. This Collection would serve as a valuable resource for oncologists, researchers, and healthcare policymakers by consolidating the latest evidence and highlighting promising research directions in the field of rare cancers, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes for these underserved patient populations.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Therapeutic developments for the treatment of specific rare cancers including drug repurposing and development of immunotherapy options

  • Advances within diagnostics, detection and surveillance for rare cancer types

  • Updates and improvements within the surgical management of specific rare solid tumours

  • Clinical trial innovation with a focus on rare cancers

  • Specialized supportive care needs in rare cancer populations

  • Emerging technologies with potential applications in rare cancers

This Article Collection welcomes authors to submit Reviews, Original Research, Drug Profiles, and short Editorial articles.

The benefit of publishing as part of an Article Collection is that they often become a key resource, driving a research community forward. This has a synergistic effect on every article in the Collection. The articles often receive more views and higher citation numbers as the Collections receive increased promotion via social media and our marketing team.

If you are interested in contributing to the Article Collection or want to learn more, then please reach out to the Commissioning Editor, Rob McMinn, who will be happy to assist.
