Housing and Health
Call for Papers
Deadline: 1 March 2020
The research journal of the Housing Education and Research Association, Housing and Society, announces a call for papers to appear in a special issue of the journal related to the theme, “Housing and Health” edited by David Turcotte.
Housing is fundamental to the quality of life in communities and is an important social determinant of health. Housing that is well designed, located and maintained is essential to mental and physical health of occupants. Many factors influence how housing affects individual and community health, such as physical conditions, behavior of residents, location, neighborhood activities, accessibility, affordability, ambient environmental quality and impacts from manmade and natural disasters. This special issue of Housing and Society will highlight the connection between housing and health by addressing the variety of elements that influences this link. We welcome manuscripts with a variety of methodological approaches, study designs and units of analysis, including statistical studies of large data sets, policy impacts and implications on various levels, behavioral studies and local intervention, environmental and impact assessment studies.
Topics of interest focused on the relationship between housing and health include, but are not limited to, those addressing:
- Aging in Place
- Healthy Homes
- Impacts of Structural Conditions and Hazards
- Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
- Impacts of Housing Instability
- Accessibility and Homelessness
