Become a Co-Editor of Journal of Development Studies
Journal of Development Studies is an international, peer-reviewed journal edited by a team of managing co-editors. It publishes current research in development policy, theory and analysis. Since its foundation in 1964 it has published many of the field’s seminal articles and maintains a strong reputation for academic rigour.
We are recruiting for a new managing editor with broad interests in development studies from Political Science, Sociology and/or Anthropology perspectives to join our team. Current managing co-editors have experience to cover the fields of Economics and quantitative Political Science (which account for more than two-thirds of the almost 1500 submissions received each year) and we are seeking a replacement for Ken Shadlen who is stepping down this summer. We are looking for an individual with a strong research background who is familiar with JDS, ideally (but not necessarily) having published and reviewed papers.
Becoming an editor is a rewarding and fulfilling experience where you will extend your networks, promote the work that you are passionate about and be recognised as a leading figure within the development studies community.
Here are the kind of attributes we are looking for in the new managing editor:
- Active in the development studies community with good networks;
- Confidence engaging with authors;
- Strong organisational skills;
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues.
The managing editors are collectively responsible for managing the manuscript review process, shaping editorial policy and broadly championing the journal within the community. The existing team will be available to advise and support the new member. For more information on the role of a journal editor, please visit our Editor Resources website.
We are seeking a managing editor to take full responsibility in the role by mid-August 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Expenses are provided to assist the managing editor.
