About the role
The International Journal of the History of Sport (IJHS) is looking for a new Managing Editor with a background in History and Sport.Now in its fourth decade, IJHS is the world’s leading sport history academic periodical, with its global coverage of the subject. IJHS offers articles on the Americas, Africa, Australasia and the Pacific, and Europe. There are also special issues each year on topics and themes of international significance. A reviews section ensures that readers are kept up to date with publications in the field. A companion- Asian Journal of Sport History & Culture - will launch in 2020, and will be managed by an independent Editorial team.
As well as the passion to drive the journal forward during an exciting period of change, we are looking for a candidate with strong research portfolios in the field. It is a significant role, but one which is achievable within a working academic timetable.
The successful candidate will be responsible for editorial oversight and final decisions on all ancient and traditional sports, IJHS submissions.
He, or she, will recommend articles for acceptance to the Managing Editor, following successful peer review, and will ensure that AEs, reviewers, and authors, adhere to the Journal’s Code of Publishing Ethics.
Taylor & Francis will provide limited remuneration for the role to cover journal-related expenses. The Editorial College and Publisher will organise Journal meetings, in person or virtually, and Taylor & Francis will supply annual reports reflecting on the performance of the Journal. The Journal utilises a ScholarOne Manuscripts online editorial office system.

- Strong organizational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner.
- The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues within the Editorial College, and the wider Editorial Board.
