Advances in Health GIS

Annals of GIS Special Issue Call for Papers

Deadline: 31 October 2019

Applying geospatial analyses to human health studies is currently one of the most active interdisciplinary research areas. On the one hand, geospatial analyses keep expanding their application domains in health studies, covering and going beyond disease-environment association detection, transmission modeling, and healthcare service assessment and optimization; on the other hand, challenges from this particular application area have become a major driving force to the development of GI Science. New concepts, theories, methodologies, and technologies of GI Science have been constantly motivated, developed, and tested in this area. This special issue offers a platform to demonstrate most cutting-edge advances in this regard.

We are inviting papers that present major research explorations along the frontiers of the field of applying geospatial analyses to human health studies. The topics may include, but not limited to:

  • Emergence and advance of new concepts and theories in or related to spatial epidemiology, as well as their associations with conventional concepts and theories.
  • Methodologies, technologies, and applications of geospatial analysis in environmental health studies.
  • Methodologies, technologies, and applications of geospatial analysis in communicable disease studies.
  • Methodologies, technologies, and applications of geospatial analysis in mental health studies.
  • Methodologies, technologies, and applications of geospatial analysis in assessment and optimization of healthcare services and resources.
  • Methodologies, technologies, and applications of geo-genetic epidemiology.
  • New advances in spatiotemporal modeling, GeoComputation, and social sensing, as well as their potentials in health studies.
