Human health is the complete mental, physical, and social well-being of a human and should not only be associated with the presence or absence of disease. Human health issue arises when the usual metabolism of the body is altered or failed due to pathogen, pollutant or other factors. Nowadays, rapid industrialization and urbanization of natural environments have increased the density of pollutants and particulate matters in the environment. When people continue to inhale the pollutants and consume them with their foods, their health would deteriorate and in severe cases, it would lead to life-threatening situations.

In the form of inhalation, ingestion and direct contact, exposure to chemicals and compounds are common in daily life. These include chlorinated water, food & products grown with chemical-based fertilizers and pesticides, cosmetics infused with chemicals including parabens, oxybenzone and phthalates, and plastic products. Environmental exposure to toxic chemicals is undoubtedly harmful to human health. The possibility of getting exposed to chemicals in larger amounts is high in regions with abundant population and motor vehicles. Health concerns due to environmental exposures range from generic cold to altered neurobehavioral development. When these chemicals are accumulated in the human body, it will cause adverse and irreversible effects on human health. Direct contact of substances including pest, pesticides, pollen, and allergen would cause infections in skin and eye. Pregnant women and children are the most susceptible to environmental exposures among the population.
Despite the sustainable improvement in current decades, environmental health remains a challenge. New health issues are emerging continuously because of the increasing noise, air, water, and land pollutions. Due to the socio-economic trends, changes in consumption and lifestyle have become evident. Besides that, increased use of new technologies and personal care products also play a determinant role in human health issues due to the exposure. Human-induced environmental phenomena such as biodiversity loss, climate change, and depletion of natural resources possibly have relentlessly imposed their effects on human health and well-being. This complex adaptability calls for an integrated examination of the relationship between health, environment, and systems of consumption and production.

Minimizing exposure to environmental threat factors by enhancing air quality, sanitation of clean energy, improved source of drinking water, reduced use of fertilizers, banning of harmful chemical compounds in cosmetics and more would improve human health and contribute to achieving environmental sustainability in health and development. The better understandings of dissimilarity in the social supply of environmental quality can be helpful for population groups, policy, healthcare access, education, economic status and lifestyle factors that affect coping capacities and adaptation. This special issue focus on sharing original and novel ideas related to human health issues due to environmental exposures.

Dr. Sujatha Krishnamoorthy is the Assistant professor of Computer Science at Wenzhou - Kean University. Earlier to WKU she was the Research and Development Head at Sri Krishna college of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, India. She has over 7 years of research experience and over a decade long experience in teaching. Her specialization is Digital Image Processing with Image fusion. She has published over 60 papers in International refereed journals like Springer and Elsevier. She has delivered several guest lectures, seminars and chaired the session at various Conferences. She is serving as a Reviewer and Editorial Board Member of many reputed Journals and Technical Program Committee member of National Conferences and International Conferences. She has received a Best Researcher Award and her research interest is Image processing and her thesis was about the High Dynamic Range Image Processing. She has mentored several research projects under UGC-MRP and DST-CSRI schemes in her previous tenure. Currently she has extended her interest in computer vision and working with medical images.

Dr. Gunasekaran Manogaran is currently working as a Big Data Scientist in University of California, Davis, USA. He is also a visiting scientist in Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China. He received his PhD from VIT University, India. He has received his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Technology from Anna University and VIT University. He has worked as a Research Assistant in a project titled “Spatial Data Mining” funded by Indian Council of Medical Research, Government of India. His current research interests include data mining, big data analytics and soft computing. He is the author/co-author of papers in conferences, book chapters and journals. He has received Young Investigator Award from India and Southeast Asia by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USA. He is a member of International Society for Infectious Diseases and Machine Intelligence Research labs. He is on the reviewer board of several international journals and has been a member of the program committee for several International/National Conferences and Workshops. Dr. Seifedine Kadry has a Bachelor degree in applied mathematics in 1999 from Lebanese University, MS degree in computation in 2002 from Reims University (France) and EPFL (Lausanne), PhD in 2007 from Blaise Pascal University (France), HDR Degree in Engineering Science in 2017 from Rouen University. At present his research focuses on education using technology, system simulation, operation research, system prognostics, stochastic systems, and probability and reliability analysis. He is an ABET program evaluator. He is the editor in chief of Research journal of mathematics and statistics & ARPN Journal of Systems and Software. He is an associate editor of International Journal of Applied Sciences (IJAS) and editorial board member of International Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology and International Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He has published more than 350 research items out of which it has been cited 1573 times, his   h-index is 17 and i10-index is 38.

Dr. Ruben Gonzalez Crespo is an advisor and collaborator of the Ministry of Education, both Spanish and Colombian, in the field of quality education, mainly university. Professor in turn of the Francisco Jose de Caldas District University in Colombia and Senior Researcher of the Country, where he works as an advisor in the creation of university entities. Previously he was Director of the Higher School of Engineering and Technology (ESIT), Director of the UNIR-AENOR Chair and Postgraduate Director at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, as well as in charge of the Chair of Operating Systems at the same university. He founded and directed the GISTI Research Group participating in several competitive research projects. He was a visiting professor for more than eight years at the University of Oviedo. He is also a Founder and Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence and Associate Editor of indexed scientific journals. He has published more than 180 articles in indexed journals and prestigious national and international conferences. He has given many seminars and conferences in Europe and Latin America on Project Management, Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0 and has received various awards related to his activity. His research focuses on Web Accessibility and Usability, Educational Technology as well as Soft Computing techniques in Artificial Intelligence. Within his Technology Transfer activities, he is an evaluator of international projects for the FECyT, SENACYT and COLCIENCIAS, among others, collaborates in different committees with AENOR, and participates as Principal Investigator in H2020 and national projects.
