As an emerging science discipline, industrial ecology is dedicated to the study of material and energy flow in the anthropogenic systems such as industrial parks, urban systems, nations, or the global system. Since humans are now playing a dominant role in transforming and moving materials/energy in epigeosphere, industrial ecology is becoming more and more widely known and can help to understand as well as optimize the impacts of human interventions on ecosystem health and global sustainability. We thus are proposing to publish this thematic issue in Ecosystem Health and Sustainability to make industrial ecology better known by ecologists and policy makers. Review and research articles are welcome.
