About the role
The journal Global Intellectual History is seeking a Social Media Editor to assist the Editor-in-Chief in establishing and developing the journal’s social media presence and strategy. The Social Media Editor will be able to use social media strategically and effectively. They will be required to promote new articles and issues, relevant news, and related content on social media accounts, promoting engagement with the journal through social media channels.
The successful candidate will be appointed as ‘Social Media Editor’ on the journal’s Editorial Board, will be provided with guidance and data to support them in their role, and work with the Editor and Publisher to build awareness of Global Intellectual History by connecting with the journal’s community online. They may also be invited to join journal meetings, either virtually or in person (depending on location). The Social Media Editor will receive an annual honorarium to cover journal-related expenses. As an Editorial Board member, they will also receive a complimentary online subscription to the journal, and a 30% discount for Routledge, Taylor & Francis books.

Global Intellectual History encourages submissions that cross disciplinary boundaries, that are comparative and transnational, that are concerned with long-term ideological movements and significant turning points in the history of ideas, with the relationship between nations and cultures and continents, and from ancient to modern times. Global Intellectual History is internationally renowned and indexed in Scopus. It successfully serves a large readership, receiving 49,000 downloads in 2022.
Application Instructions
To apply, please submit the following:
- brief CV: one-page maximum
- cover letter: a one-page outline how you meet the attributes listed above, your vision for the journal’s social media account and how you would build awareness and maximise dissemination of content from the journal
- three sample social media ‘posts’: suitable for three different social media platforms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and/ or Instagram)
- the posts should include all text and media related to the post, and pay due regard to the conventions, character and/ or word limits relevant to the platform, and include any necessary or desired links, or ‘tags’
- timing of the post may also be taken into consideration
- the three different posts should all promote the following article: The Youth Who Defeated Aristotle: The Life and Thought of Dashtakī (d. 948/1541) (tandfonline.com)
- These can be mocked up, and sent through as a separate document, continuing on from the CV. Alternatively, you may find it easier to actually post from any existing social media accounts you oversee, and send through direct links to, or screenshots of, the posts.
