About the role
We are looking for a new Editor-in-Chief with the passion to drive the journal forwards and continue to serve food scientists, immunologists and all those concerned with the interaction between food and immune systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Editorial oversight and decision-making on all submissions. Ensuring that all submissions are processed within the agreed ‘turn around times’ and provide constructive feedback to authors.
- Gathering feedback from the academic community (reviewers) and the editorial board (Associate Editors) to inform the decision-making process.
- Lead and support an editorial team approach to the implementation of strategic development initiatives
- Lead regular Editorial Board meetings ensuring that the editorial team and board members to ensure they are up to date on the journal’s performance, policies, and publishing strategy
- Ensure that reviewers and authors adhere to industry best practices as closely as possible
- Periodically proposing (and assessing any received proposals) special issues or collections around a themes of interest to the journal’s community.
- Working with publisher’s commissioning and editorial support staff to attract work from a growing network of both new and established researchers
- Collaborate with the publisher on appropriate handling for ethics queries (in line with COPE and ICMJE guidance)
This role will involve daily monitoring of all submissions, assignments, and tasks; is target driven; and can be flexible to suit the candidate and their time zone. Training will be provided and there will be an agreed handover with the outgoing Editor to ensure seamless transition.
Taylor & Francis will provide a stipend to cover Editor expenses.

About the journal
Food and Agricultural Immunology is an international open access journal publishing immunological research with applications in food, agricultural, environmental, and veterinary science. The journal aims to expand our understanding of the interactions at the interface of food and immune systems.
Key Skills and Attributes
If you are interested in applying, please consider the skills and attributes we are looking for in a successful candidate:
- Active senior researcher in the immunology and food science research sphere, with an understanding of research and publishing ethics
- A good understanding of Open Access publishing and Open Science landscape
- Strong personal networks within the immunology and food science communities
- Confidence to engage with authors and researchers to solicit high quality submissions
- Strong organisational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner to agreed ‘turn around times’
- The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues
- Experience acting as a peer reviewer for journals in the field
Not essential but highly desirable:
- Previous experience as an Editor, Associate Editor or Editorial Board member for a journal in the field or an Open Access journal would be a distinct advantage
The role is for an initial term of three years. We expect the candidate to formally start in this role from January 1st 2024, with a transitional phase to be agreed with the outgoing Editor during 2023.
