About the role
International Journal of Sustainable Energy is currently recruiting for Editorial Board Members. This role is a great opportunity for academics and early career researchers. We specifically welcome applications in the following areas:
- Sustainable Energy Technologies
- Sustainable Built Environment
- Sustainable Transportation
- Power Engineering
- Energy Policy and Economics
- Environmental Impact and Sustainability Assessment
The Editorial Board Members must have the commitment, drive and ability to develop and grow the journal. As part of this role, you will be responsible for providing expertise and guidance to ensure that the journal maintains the highest standards of quality and relevance. You will work closely with our team of editors and reviewers to ensure that manuscripts are rigorously reviewed and published in a timely manner. Editorial Board Members will also be expected to review a certain number of studies per year through use of the Journal’s online submission and peer review system, in accordance with the Taylor & Francis Editor Code of Conduct, and contribute to the expansion of the journal.
The Editorial Board Member is responsible for the following activities:
- Acting as an ambassador to the journal
- Regular and confident use of an online peer review management system.
- Adhering to the Journal’s Guidelines on Publishing Ethics to assure the integrity and reputation of the Journal is maintained.
- Supporting the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors through performing timely and thorough peer review where necessary, providing high quality peer review feedback.
- Communicating promptly, consistently and professionally and within a reasonable period.
- Planning and organising Article Collections for the Journal in collaboration with the Commissioning Editor.

About the Journal

International Journal of Sustainable Energy is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal that comprehensively covers the latest research on the science and engineering of sustainable energy systems.
Articles highlight advances on renewable energy sources, sustainable energy efficiency and sustainable energy conservation, economics of sustainable energy systems, security of sustainable energy supply, novel sustainable energy technologies as well as educational and technological research papers on sustainable energy.
Please note that the International Journal of Sustainable Energy converted to a full Open Access journal from Volume 42 (2023). Previous volumes will continue to provide access through a Pay to Read model.
The Journal has a 2.7 (2024) Impact Factor and a 5.0 (2024) CiteScore (Scopus), attracting a wide range of quality submissions.

- The capacity to devote time to the role, and to attend Editorial Board meetings each year.
- The ability to confidently use an online peer review management system and to complete peer review in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
- A commitment to communicating promptly, consistently, and professionally with authors and Taylor & Francis staff during the peer review process.
- A strong commitment to ethical rigour as well as knowledge of the COPE guidelines and commitment to ensure that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
- Actively involved in growing and developing your academic networks through conference attendance and experience of networking through social media.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the open access publishing environment.
- A vision and enthusiasm for the continuous development of the journal.
- Experience in academic publishing and familiarity with the publishing process is desirable but not essential.
