African Studies

Deadline
31 May 2024

About the role

African Studies is currently recruiting for a co-editor to join the existing team. This role is a great opportunity for an academic with a strong research background in social sciences and humanities research in Africa, and who also has the commitment, drive and ability to help develop the journal. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the oversight and administration of a rigorous and proper peer review process that delivers an agreed amount of content of suitable scope and quality within an agreed publication timeframe. You will also be asked to participate in:

  • The selection of candidates for a number of grants and awards that the journal administers
  • Representing the journal at international conferences and events
  • Soliciting submissions from more marginalised countries and less well-represented disciplines
  • Supporting online and social media presence
  • Encouraging the submission of and editing special issues
  • Liaising with the Editorial Board on key matters

Becoming the editor of a journal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience where you have the opportunity to build your own networks, develop and promote the research in your field, and be recognized as a leading figure within the academic community. The position does come with a grant and additional funding can be applied for to attend conferences or events in which you represent the journal. Preference will be given to Africans and scholars at African universities as co-eds on this journal.

We're also open to applications for EBMs or reviewers. Use the same APPLY form on screen.
