Tourism Planning & Development

About the role

Tourism Planning & Development is currently recruiting for 3 x Associate Editors.

This is a great opportunity for academics with a strong research background, who also have the commitment, drive and ability to help develop the journal. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the oversight and administration of a rigorous and proper peer review process of submitted manuscripts. You will also act as an advocate for the journal and help promote the journal to your colleagues and network, as well as at any conferences or events you attend.

Tourism Planning and Development (TPD) aims to explore and advance our theoretical and practical understandings of the intersections between tourism, planning and development studies. The Journal seeks to engage and challenge readers by asking What can/should we do about tourism planning and development? Who can/should be taking responsibility for tourism planning and development? Papers needs to demonstrate relevance to the international readership of the journal.

Types of papers include:

  • Theory, Methodology and Empirically Grounded full papers: presenting original research results contributing theoretical, methodological and empirically grounded new knowledge - 7,000-9,000 words.
  • Short communications, opinion pieces and research notes: including comments on papers previously published and empirical work in progress - 2,000 - 4,000 words.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • The capacity to devote time each week to the role, and to attend Editorial Board meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Some level of experience of the academic publishing process, either as an author, reviewer or journal Editorial Board Member.
  • The ability to ensure all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
  • The ability to read, summarize, and recommend decisions based on independent reviewer reports.
  • A commitment to communicating promptly, consistently, and professionally with authors during the peer review process.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Invite reviewers and ensure manuscripts receive at least two external, independent reviews.
  • Communicate with reviewers directly if a review is overdue.
  • Liaise with authors.
  • Give recommendation to the Editors-in-Chief.
