Further scope for the newest sections to Cogent Social Sciences:
- Development Studies
This section positions itself as a hub for high-quality, interdisciplinary research on shared global challenges, reflecting the trend toward global development. It focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to global development challenges, and considers key elements listed below. Development Studies embraces a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of global development. It addresses pressing challenges that transcend North-South divides while acknowledging differential impacts and historical contexts. It emphasizes rigorous research that integrates insights from multiple social science disciplines.Key themes include implementation and critique of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); global health and pandemics; climate change adaptation and mitigation (global perspectives); globalization, trade, and finance; migration and displacement; digital transformation and global connectivity; global governance and multilateralism; poverty and inequality in diverse global contexts, gender and development. The section's theoretical orientation is pluralistic, welcoming contributions from mainstream and critical perspectives across the social sciences, provided they engage rigorously with development issues. Its methodological approach puts emphasis on methodological diversity and rigor. Particularly encourages innovative mixed-methods research, comparative studies (North-South, South-South, North-North), analysis of large-scale datasets, and systematic reviews. This section also encourages geographical emphasis on specific regions (North or South) as well as explicitly comparative or globally focused studies addressing universal challenges.Target article types include empirical research articles (quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods), policy-relevant analyses, comprehensive literature reviews/syntheses and methodological contributions. Potential exclusions may apply to highly localized studies that lack broader theoretical or comparative relevance (purely descriptive papers without analytical depth). - European Politics
This section seeks submissions that promote scholarly discourse and contribute to a better understanding of complex social, political, economic, geopolitical, and cultural dynamics within Europe. In particular, we prioritize submissions that offer novel research, be it empirical or theoretical. This section also welcomes inter- and multidisciplinary research that integrates scholarship from across social sciences. We encourage collaborative research that offers comparative analysis of European politics, especially as they are affected by policies of pan-European institutions, such as the European Union, and international alliances, such as NATO. - Gender Studies
This section examines contemporary global gender issues for its interdisciplinary readership. It emphasizes critical reflection in exploring gender-based inequalities and their relationship with other relevant social categories, such as, ethnicity, class, sexuality, disability and age.We welcome original research and reviews that illuminate and engage with gender inequity and discrimination in diverse areas, underpinned by relevant theories and concepts. These themes include violence, education, work, health, migration and feminist theory, although we welcome contributions from other areas. With an emphasis on diverse author voices, we welcome submissions from practitioners as well as academics, early career researchers as well as established authors, which is accessible to a global readership that seeks to further gender equity in policy, practice, theory, action and debate. - Risks and Disasters
This section aims to provide a forum to discuss disasters with a critical lens, drawing from critical social and interdisciplinary sciences and proposing epistemological and empirical studies. Topics covered may be theory and practice of risk and disaster studies, critical aspects of society, culture, economy, politics and environment in their interactions with risks and disasters. The section encourages papers that can provide a critical and radical stance to interrogate risks and disasters, their impacts and consequences and moving beyond "normative" science, to critically engage with these concepts. - Water Resources
Water Resources focuses on the study of emerging and challenging issues facing efforts to understand and address the complexity of human interactions and impacts to water management across the globe. We seek to examine best practices and related research at the intersection of science, engineering and related fields in order to consider the range of planning, regulations, community decision-making and other tools and approaches necessary to address solutions. The aim is to focus on local, regional, national and global water issues and concerns, and related resource policies and practices. We especially encourage case studies from traditionally underrepresented regions across the world in order to highlight examples of this research and provide shared experiences and knowledge through study and learning. Topics of special interest related to water resources include global change and resilience, interdisciplinary approaches to water resources, community/local based projects, research related to marine and coastal environments, studies of freshwater aquatic river and lake environments, and watershed/drainage basins.
