About the Journal
Cogent Education is a leading multidisciplinary open access journal, publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed articles across the breadth of educational research. The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Professor John C.K. Lee (The Education University of Hong Kong), supported by an expert international Editorial Board. Our academic editors take an objective and constructive approach to peer review, ensuring each manuscript is evaluated on its own scholarly merits and research integrity. Article-level metrics let the research speak for itself.
Early years welcomes rigorous empirical and theoretical papers that examine all aspects of early childhood education and care in both formal (e.g. nurseries, daycare, school nurseries) and informal settings (e.g. home, community). Topics can include but are not limited to child development, early years policy (e.g. United Nations Sustainable Development Goals), early education practice, the importance of play, child autonomy, child voice, ethical issues, and equality, diversity and inclusion for all. Interdisciplinary papers from a variety of different country contexts in the Global South and North are welcomed. Submissions should make clear the theoretical and/ or empirical novel contributions of the paper, signaling how the work takes our thinking forward into new areas. In all submissions, careful attention should be given to ethical issues associated with research (both empirical and theoretical) involving young children.
