Associate Editor needed for

Mathematics in Medical and Life Sciences

Deadline
30 September 2024

About the role

Mathematics in Medical and Life Sciences (MMLS) is currently recruiting for Associate Editors to join the Editorial Board. This role is a great opportunity for academics with a proven research track record in mathematical sciences (including statistics, computational biology and computational engineering) who has the commitment, drive and ability to help develop this newly launched journal.

MMLS invites novel enquiry combining mathematical research (broadly interpreted as above) with domain relevance to current questions and challenges at the cutting edges of medicine, biology or the life sciences. The journal champions both mathematical methodology, and clear engagement with the frontiers of application areas.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Associate Editors provide support through editorial handling a small number of papers and contributing to editorial review of submissions when required.
  • Associate Editors are ambassadors for MMLS supporting the Editor-in-Chief and Section Editors in increasing awareness of MMLS within your networks and at academic conferences.
  • Associate Editors suggest potential contributors and contribute to Editorial Board meetings around the future direction of MMLS.

This position is voluntary but offers a rewarding and fulfilling experience where you have the opportunity to build your networks, develop and promote the research in your field, contribute to the development of this new journal, and evidence scientific leadership The journal particularly welcomes applications from throughout the international research community, and from underrepresented groups.

About the journal

Mathematics in Medical and Life Sciences is a high-quality research journal focusing on Mathematical Sciences, broadly defined, including statistics, computational biology and computational engineering. The journal invites novel enquiry combining mathematical research with domain relevance to current questions and challenges at the cutting edges of medicine, biology or the life sciences.

MMLS has an inherently applied nature but covers both theoretical and applied mathematics with topics covered including, but not limited to the following:

• Biomechanics
• Cardiovascular modelling
• Cell and developmental biology
• Disease modelling
• Ecological mathematics
• Epidemiology
• Immunobiology and infection
• Mathematical oncology
• Mathematical biology
• Population dynamics
• Systems biology and pharmacology

Mathematical and statistical methodology may include, but are not limited to, cross-cutting areas including:

• Continuous and discrete dynamical systems
• Partial differential equations
• Cellular automata
• Complexity and network science
• Stochastic and probabilistic modelling
• Asymptotic analysis
• Multiscale modelling
• Game theory
• Applications of geometry and topology in life sciences and medicine
• Parameter inference and model identifiability
• Image analysis
• Scientific computation and software development
• Machine learning and data science
• Design of experiments and interpretation of experimental data

MMLS is a multidisciplinary venue which has at its core mathematical development, novelty, and robustness at the heart of its publications, while ensuring non-mathematically trained domain readers can grasp and value the novelty and meaning of each work. This is also reflected with the review process aiming for, as a minimum, one review by a mathematician and one review from a domain expert.

MMLS publishes original research articles, review articles, article commentaries, and data notes, along with primer articles designed to communicate mathematical and statistical concepts in the context of a domain of application.
