Economy and Society Call for Editors

Are you interested in becoming a new member of the editorial team of an established and active editorial board?

Economy and Society is seeking new members of the editorial team to join an established and active editorial board. We expect to fill core editorial positions over 2020-2021, with an opportunity for new colleagues to take a lead role in the editorial direction of this major social science journal as it moves into its sixth decade of publishing innovative research and breaking new theoretical ground across the social sciences.

The journal will mark its 50th volume in 2021, and continues to be one of the most influential resources for scholars in the social sciences worldwide. Economy and Society plays a key role in promoting new debates and currents of social thought, exploring the social sciences in the broadest interdisciplinary sense, publishing the work of emerging scholars internationally alongside some of the world’s leading sociologists and anthropologists, political scientists, legal theorists, philosophers, economists and geographers.

We are seeking new editorial colleagues who can demonstrate the following:

  • the ability to work with submissions across a range of topics and disciplinary fields.
  • relevant experience as a reviewer for social science journals.
  • ability to work constructively with authors, reviewers and the editorial and publishing teams.
  • capacity to participate in regular editorial meetings in London throughout the year.

Strong candidates with expertise in any relevant field of social science will be considered. However, expertise in one or more of the following fields would be desirable:

  • economic sociology
  • political economy
  • critical organisational studies
  • economic and cultural geography
  • critical area studies
  • social and economic justice
  • critical race studies

The editorial board meets 5-6 times a year, usually in London, and the board plays an active role in journal strategy, detailed editorial review and collective decision-making, with the support of an in-house journal manager and a dedicated publishing team. We are seeking new colleagues with an interest in moving into lead editorial roles which involve a commitment to the journal of 2-5 days per month. These editorial posts carry honoraria and all necessary travel and related expenses will be covered.

If you wish to apply for these roles, please email Dawn Bailey, Journal Manager (econsoc@lse.ac.uk) by Friday 4 October 2019, with a cover letter stating why you would like to join the journal, and the skills and qualities you can bring to the post, along with a short CV that focuses on your publishing, reviewing and editorial experience. More information about the journal is available here: https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/reso20/current For an informal discussion of the journal’s editorial structure and process, the proposed editorial roles and the support available for editors, please contact the Managing Editor, Fran Tonkiss, at econsoc@lse.ac.uk
