Digital Water
An open access journal
Digital Water offers both academic and practitioner readers a broad overview of digital transformation across the three central domains of water resources research: water uses, water-related disasters mitigation, and water environment preservation. There is a need within these domains of the water sector for improved management based on information technology solutions, from sensors to decision making systems.
Digital Water’s focus on digital technologies and on methods supporting digital transformation within the water sphere sets it apart from other journals, creating a community and a publication outlet within a field that tends to focus either on technologies or water science more broadly.
The central focus for submissions should be on methods and technologies aimed at managing both natural and artificial water systems and resources that have an immediate practical application. Although methods and models may be presented, articles should not be solely theoretical and a direct impact in practice must be evident.
Meet the editors
Digital Water is a collaborative publication for the hydroinformatics community. The journal’s extensive and global editorial leadership team combines years of expertise in the field and represents diverse geographical perspectives. The journal provides a place for innovation in hydroinformatics research, supported by key contributors within the community.

His research activities are related to the development of hydroinformatics solutions for hydrology and hydraulics issues, the combination of different type of modelling approaches such as distributed physically based and AI technics, extreme flood events management and resilience assessment.
He has been engaged in numerous international research projects and is currently Guest/Honorary Professor at 14 universities, mainly in Europe and Asia. Philippe actively serves in several international scientific associations, such as the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), and has been initiator of the SimHydro conferences cycle with the Sociéte Hydrotechnique de France (SHF) since 2010.
He is one of the founders of the Asian Water Council and has served as Vice President since 2016.

His research topics are related to the development of digital water solutions for urban water systems, implementing the integration between models, decision support strategies and sensing technologies to improve water managers’ proactive abilities and to help implement climate change adaptation action plans.
He was involved in several international and national research projects dealing with climate change adaptation, digitalisation in the water industry, natural water quality preservation integrating advanced sensing, numerical modelling and AI solutions for empowering water management decisions.
Gabriele has been the Executive Chair of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR)/International Water Association (IWA) Joint Committee on Hydroinformatics since 2018 and is a member of the IAHR Council.
