Philippe Gourbesville has been Professor of Hydroinformatics at Université Côte d’Azur, France since 1997, 10 years after starting his career as a hydraulic engineer. He served as Director of Polytech Nice Sophia from 2007 to 2017. Philippe is deeply engaged in educational activities, in particular the development of new curricula in the field of Hydroinformatics with the EuroAquae joint MSc since 2004.
His research activities are related to the development of hydroinformatics solutions for hydrology and hydraulics issues, the combination of different type of modelling approaches such as distributed physically based and AI technics, extreme flood events management and resilience assessment.
He has been engaged in numerous international research projects and is currently Guest/Honorary Professor at 14 universities, mainly in Europe and Asia. Philippe actively serves in several international scientific associations, such as the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), and has been initiator of the SimHydro conferences cycle with the Sociéte Hydrotechnique de France (SHF) since 2010.
He is one of the founders of the Asian Water Council and has served as Vice President since 2016.
