To celebrate the approach of the Journal’s 35th year we would like to host a journal cover image competition!

The winner of this competition will receive a book voucher from Taylor and Francis and the chance to have the journal represented by their image for the coming years.

                    You can view the journal’s previous cover images below. The current cover image has been serving the journal since 2001.

                    Entries should include an image that best represents the journal’s Aims, Scope, and content. This image can be a forested landscape or forest engineering machinery/equipment being used within the forest or transporting timber or biomass products to industry. Please note that these images should not include people’s faces and should be an image that you own.

                    Competition Terms and Conditions

                    1. The Promoter

                    The promoter is: Informa UK Limited trading as Taylor & Francis Group (company number 01072954), whose registered office is 5 Howick Place, London SW1P 1WG and whose principal place of business is 4 Park Square, Milton Park, Abingdon OX14 4RN.

                    2. The Competition

                    2.1 The title of the competition is the International Journal of Forest Engineering Cover Image Competition (the “Competition”).

                    2.2 The Competition provides the opportunity for entrants to submit a new cover image for the International Journal of Forest Engineering’s (the “Journal”) next volume, starting in 2024. Entries to the Competition should include an image that best represents the journal’s Aims, Scope, and content (the “Entry Image”). For example, the Entry Image could be a forested landscape or forest engineering machinery/equipment being used within the forest or transporting timber or biomass products to industry.

                    2.3 In submitting the Entry Image to the Competition, you warrant that:

                    (a) The Entry Image is your original work, apart from any permitted third-party copyright material you include, and does not infringe any intellectual property rights of any other person or entity and cannot be construed as plagiarizing any other published work, including your own published work.

                    (b) The Entry Image is not currently under submission to, nor is under consideration by, nor has been accepted by any other competition or publication, nor has been previously published in any way by any other publication, nor has been assigned or licensed by you to any third party.

                    (c) The Entry Image contains no content that is abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, libellous, obscene, nor in any way infringes the rights of others, nor is in any other way unlawful or in violation of applicable laws.

                    (d) The Entry Image does not include any person’s faces or any identifying imagery of an individual.

                    (e) You have obtained the necessary written permission to include material in your Entry Image that is owned and held in copyright by a third party, which shall include but is not limited to any illustrations or other material, including film stills, screenshots and any supplemental material.

                    3. How to enter

                    3.1 The competition will run from 8am (GMT) on 1st February 2023 (the “Opening Date“) to 8pm (GMT) on the 31st May 2023 (the “Closing Date“) inclusive.

                    3.2 All competition entries must be received by the Promoter by no later than 8pm on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date will not be included or considered in the Competition.

                    3.3 To enter the Competition:

                    (a) Send your entry to [email protected] as a jpeg or png file, at the highest quality. You will receive a confirmation email upon receival of your entry.

                    3.4 The Promoter will not accept:

                    (a) responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid or delayed, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

                    3.5 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

                    3.6 The competition entries will be judged by the Editorial Board, and picked based on the most voted image. The decision of the Editorial Board (acting reasonably) will be final.

                    4. Eligibility

                    4.1 The Competition is open to all aged 18 years or over.

                    4.2 In entering the Competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

                    4.3 There is a limit of two entries per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.

                    4.4 The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

                    4.5 Competition entries cannot be returned.

                    5. The Prize

                    5.1 The Competition prize is a £200 Book Voucher to spend online at Taylor and Francis. This will be awarded to the winner of the Competition.

                    5.2 The prize is not negotiable or transferable.

                    5.3 If your Entry Image has been chosen as the winner of the Competition, you will be contacted by [email protected] who will award you the prize and notify you on how to use the voucher.

                    6. Winners

                    6.1 The decision of the Promoter on the winning Entry Image is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into in the event of a dispute about the winning Entry Image.

                    6.2 The Promoter will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the email address provided with the competition entry. The Promoter will not amend any contact information once the competition entry form has been submitted.

                    6.3 The Promoter must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation the Promoter will publish the name and institution/country of the prize winner as well as the winning Entry Image on the Journal’s website on September 1st 2023.

                    6.4 If you object to any or both of your surname or institution/country being published or made available, please contact the Promoter at the email address: [email protected]. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

                    7. Claiming the prize

                    7.1 The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available within twenty one (21) days of the Announcement Date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

                    7.2 The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize, in the event that you win the Competition.

                    8. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights

                    8.1 All competition entries, the Entry Image and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned.

                    8.2 By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:

                    (a) assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and

                    (b) waive all moral rights, in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

                    8.3 You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your Entry Image available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry for such purposes.

                    9. Data protection and publicity

                    9.1 The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in the https://www.informa.com/privacy-policy/. See also condition 6.3 and condition 6.4, with regard to the announcement of winners.

                    10. General

                    10.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the Competition.

                    10.2 The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize Competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

                    10.3 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
