Aims and Scope of the Journal

Cogent Public Health is an international, multidisciplinary peer-reviewed open access journal, publishing content directly involved in, or concerned with, the aspects, research, implementation, and management of public health.

The journal champions high-quality articles relevant within the field of public health, aimed at all public health researchers and those working within public health services. The journal welcomes Research Articles, Registered Reports, Brief Replications Reports, Review Articles, and Brief Reports. Submissions are assessed on their scientific soundness and validity and not evaluated based on subjective assessments of importance.

Specifically, the journal has a keen focus on the following areas:

  • Environmental Health – relationships between peoples’ health and their environment

  • Epidemiology – the distribution of diseases and other health-related factors

  • Ethics & Governance - the application and understanding of relevant principles, morals and values in the process of public health decision making

  • Health Behaviour – actions taken by people that influence and affect their health

  • Health Communication – the practice of communicating & promoting health information to the public

  • Health Policy – plans and decisions made on a local, national, or international level to achieve specific health care goals within a society

  • Health Services – networks of care within the public health infrastructure

  • Occupational Health – a focus on the health and well-being of workers in all occupations

  • Public Health Economics – the branch of economics concerned with issues relating to public health costs, services, and decision-making

  • Social Health – the measure of a populations health that concerns peoples’ relationships with one another

Role Description

We are excited to announce that Cogent Medicine will soon be relaunching as Cogent Public Health. As such, we are seeking a dedicated Editor-in-Chief who will be enthusiastic as the journal is repurposed in 2022. Currently, we envisage Cogent Public Health will serve all those directly involved in or concerned with, the aspects, research, implementation, and management of public health.

As Editor-in-Chief you would be responsible for:

  • Conducting a review of peer-reviewer comments and formulating a decision on manuscript acceptability. Communicating this decision to authors via the Editorial Manager web-based Editorial system in a prompt manner

  • Liaising with publishing staff on any questions that arise as a result of the manuscript editing or production processes, and on furthering the journal development

  • Driving the journal forward, increasing its profile and overall quality

  • Ensuring that reviewers and authors adhere to the Journal’s Code of Publishing Ethics
