In this role, the Book Reviews Editor will be contributing towards JAS as a world-leading publication in applied statistics.
Book reviews may focus on individual book publications or combine several book publications on similar topics but this would be up to the Book Reviews Editor to determine. In terms of specific responsibilities, the Book Reviews Editor is expected to:
Find suitable works for review in liaison with the Editor-in-Chief and members of the Editorial Board.
- Commission reviews and inviting reviewers.
- Keep records so copyflow can be managed and outstanding reviews tracked.
- Provide feedback on drafts and recommend book reviews for acceptance to the Editor-in-Chief.
- Liaise with publishers to secure review copies and share published reviews.
- Attend annual Editorial Board meetings.
The successful candidate is likely to have previous experience of editorial-related roles, reviewing manuscripts, and writing book reviews. They should be enthusiastic about reinvigorating the Book Reviews section in JAS and have the time and existing networks within the field to do a great job.
The Book Reviews Editor will be appointed as a member of the Editorial Board and work with the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board and the Publisher in this endeavour. As an Editorial Board member, the successful applicant will receive an online subscription to JAS.
Interested in applying?
To apply, please email your CV and cover letter to the Editor-in-Chief Prof Jie Chen ([email protected]) and the Portfolio Manager at the Publisher, Taylor & Francis, Justin Robinson ([email protected]). Please outline in your cover letter how you meet the attributes listed above and how you intend to build and develop the Book Reviews section.
All applications will be treated as strictly confidential, and each will be judged on its merits without regard to the race, religion, nationality, sex, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the candidate.
