Special issue on Energy Digitization in Manufacturing

Deadline: 30 September 2019

Facing vast amounts of energy consumption at a low efficiency in industrial sector, and resulting massive carbon emission, national administration heightened attention on ecological modernization, green growth, and low carbon development, with a national sustainability strategy. Energy consumption in industrial sectors is dominated by manufacturing (approximately 70%). With a wide distribution and large amount of energy consumption at a low efficiency, manufacturing systems have considerable energy-saving potential.

Digital technologies have been helping to improve energy systems for decades. Benefits from the maturity and prevalent use of the Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, Big data, Machine learning, and so on, the pace of digitalization in energy is increasing, and energy in manufacturing is in the process of undergoing a significant transformation to become more digitized and intelligent. Research in digital technologies for energy-intensive manufacturing industry has attracted more and more attentions from many researchers and engineers

The aim of the special issue is to provide original and latest contributions, and to review and survey research and development on energy digitization in manufacturing, focusing on state-of-the-art and potential future approaches and technologies and providing a good starting point for researchers entering these research areas. The special issue will explore new approaches and perspectives of energy digitization in manufacturing. It intends to collect a series of leading and high-quality papers on ideas, approaches, and technologies applied for energy digitization in manufacturing.
