Special Issue: Call for Proposals
Editors of the Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE) (Print ISSN: 1539-1523; Online ISSN: 1945-0818) invite scholars of technology in education to submit a special issue proposal for the 2019 or 2020 volumes. The purpose of the special issue is to provide our readers with a collection of rigorous and relevant articles on a specific topic of cutting-edge technology in education research and practice. For a JRTE special issue, please contact the editors before developing a proposal to ensure the topic is an appropriate fit for JRTE.
Special issue proposals will be evaluated on several criteria by JRTE editors, including the overall quality of the proposal, fit of the topic within the scope of JRTE, significance, relevance, and advancement of technology in education. Guest editors must demonstrate scholarly experience in topic of the special issue, assemble a strong panel of high quality reviewers, and provide evidence of the feasibility of the timeline. Manuscripts for the special issue will be submitted to the JRTE ScholarOne system to facilitate the process of assigning reviewers, collating reviews, communicating with authors, making editorial decisions, and collecting revisions. The guest editors will coordinate the editorial process in consultation with the Editors of JRTE. The guest editors will be expected to meet deadlines and deliver the final project as scheduled. The five-page proposal should contain the following information for consideration:
- A rationale explaining the significance, relevance, advancement, and adherence to the broad scope of JRTE.
- A brief outline of the topics in for the proposed special issue.
- A plan for obtaining quality manuscripts, including target audiences and marketing efforts.
- A curriculum vitae of each the proposed guest editors.
- A list of potential reviewers for the special issue.
- A proposed call-for-papers with appropriate background and references.
- A proposed schedule including submission deadline and completion of the editorial process.
- A detailed description of the selection process of the manuscripts.
Aims and Scope
The Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE) is a premiere source for high-quality, peer-reviewed research that defines the state of the art, and future horizons, of teaching and learning with technology. The terms “education” and “technology” are broadly defined. Education is inclusive of formal educational environments ranging from PK-12 to higher education, and informal learning environments, such as museums, community centers, and after-school programs. Technology refers to both software and hardware innovations, and more broadly, the application of technological processes to education.
JRTE publishes original empirical research (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method designs), project descriptions/evaluations, systematic literature reviews (including meta-analyses), methodological reviews, policy analyses, and theoretical or conceptual positions that relate to the uses and innovative applications of technology in education. JRTE publishes the latest in research and critical analyses on technology in education for educational theorists, researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers. International in scope, the journal is published quarterly by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
