Since 1997, Coastal Engineering Journal (CEJ) has instituted an annual best paper award, 'Coastal Engineering Journal Award' to honor the author(s) of the outstanding contributions to the scientific and engineering field covered by the scope of Coastal Engineering Journal. Nominations and elections are made by the editorial board members, with all papers published each year eligible for consideration.

The award is presented to the author(s) of the elected work by the editorial board and the coastal engineering committee, JSCE.
