Contribute a Book Review
The Canadian Journal of Development Studies (CJDS) publishes book reviews and thematic review essays of multiple books to keep readers informed on new research on international development theory, policy and practice. We also publish reviews of development reports and other forms of development media that are relevant to the journal’s multidisciplinary and international readership.
If you are interested in viewing the books available for review or suggesting another recent book or report for CJDS, please contact Dr. Charis Enns. Please include:
- The title of the book that you would like to review
- Your timeline for writing the review
- Your affiliation
- Your mailing address
If the book is likely to be of interest to our readership, a review copy of the book will be mailed to you.
Submission Guidelines
We welcome reviews written by academics, graduate researchers, policy-makers and practitioners. Books and reports in either English or French can be reviewed and reviews may be written in either English or French. Reviews of individual books or reports should not exceed 1,000 words. Review essays covering two or more works on a similar theme can be up to 2,000 words. Reviews must be written in a way that is accessible to our multidisciplinary and international audience.
More detailed guidance on writing and submitting book reviews is available here.
Submitting Your Book to be Reviewed
Finally, recognizing that book launches have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, we would also like to help you get the word out about your recently published books in the field of international development theory, policy and practice. If you would like your recently published book reviewed in CJDS, please contact Dr. Charis Enns with the title of the book and 1-2 sentences about the contribution your book makes to current international development practice, policy or teaching so that we can assess if the book is likely to be of interest to our readership.
