About the Role

Cogent Arts & Humanities is seeking to appoint a new Senior Editor who will take charge of communication studies submissions, which will publish in the soon to be renamed Media, Communication & Cultural Studies section of the journal (currently Media, Culture & Film).

The Communication Studies Senior Editor will be responsible for editorial oversight and decision-making for the subject in the section, overseeing submissions and peer review, and would be welcome to invite board members to support them. The Senior Editor will act as an ambassador for the journal and work closely in the community to attract submissions. Routledge will provide guidance on systems and processes used, including the Cogent Arts & Humanities Editorial Manager site, as well as remuneration for the role to cover any journal-related expenses. Routledge will also be able to supply data reflecting on the performance of the journal to support ongoing development.

    Key Skills and Attributes

    Here are the skills and attributes we would be looking for in a successful applicant:

    • Relevant scholarly expertise in any area of communication studies, including completion of PhD;

    • Active within the online research community;

    • Experience with academic publishing and editing (special issues, edited collections, etc.);

    • Strong organisational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner;

    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues;

    • Desirable: knowledge and awareness of Open Access publishing.
